Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton was impeached by the “Republican” majority Texas State House over Memorial Day weekend 2023. Now, in September, the case is before the Texas State Senate that will decide guilt or innocence, and any punishment.
But it is the voters in Texas who are the real victims of what seems more like a politically driven persecution than a legitimate inquiry. The voters’ right to self-governance is being infringed by the impeachment proceedings.
Here is why Texans are deeply opposed to this impeachment.
- Texas Republican voters were ambushed by this impeachment.
Paxton was impeached on Saturday May 27th, and for the majority of Republican voters that was the first day they even knew there was an impeachment underway. The Democrat-run (see #6 below) House chose to hire an investigative team and keep the entire process secret from Republican voters up until the day they announced the vote.
- Paxton was and is the people’s choice.
He has been consistently elected to various positions for twenty years, was reelected as AG three times, and won his most recent primary runoff by a 2 to 1 margin. He stands with the grassroots, and they chose him in 2022 over an establishment supported and funded candidate by a huge margin, in a race where the allegations now being examined were publicly debated. In short, the people who wanted to know about these allegations, knew. And they chose Paxton.
- The impeachment violated state law.
AG Paxton was impeached over alleged events that occurred prior to his most recent election, which is a hugely relevant fact.
Texas Gov Code Sec. 665.081(D) says that officials may not be impeached for conduct that occurred prior to their election, and the Supreme Court clarified that “prior to his election to office” means prior his most recent election to office. The ENTIRE point of that law is to honor Texas voters and their right to choose their elected officials.
- The process used by the legislature was unlawfully flawed.
Not in some minor way. In a due process depriving way. BIG flaws such as: the witnesses were not required to testify under oath; and there was no cross examination. Read HERE more about the unlawful nature of the process.
- The same officials who found the time to investigate and impeach Paxton could not find the time to pass vital “top priority to voters” legislation.
Major legislative goals left unmet: No school choice, no electric grid protection, no protection against Biden’s impending central bank digital currency, no ban on the CCP and other foreign entities buying up farmland in Texas, no protecting Texans’ right to disable Biden’s mandated vehicle kill-switches. And that’s a partial list.
By contrast, Paxton fights for the people’s agenda. He stands up on the issues the Republican voting base wants him to fight on–from border security, to election integrity, to holding the pharmaceutical industry accountable for the contents of the covid injections, and dozens more. He stands up against the Biden assault on America.
- Contrary to popular belief, and the will of the Texas voters, Republicans don’t control the Texas legislature.
In case you are thinking “but the Republicans have the majority in the TX House, so how could this impeachment be political,” let me explain. Voters DID elect a Republican majority government in Texas, including the Texas House and Senate, but through the process described in The Texas Heist, Republicans surrendered control of the Texas House (as they have done for decades) to the Democrats. This is the Republican “join the ruling class cabal on Day One” surrender tactic on full display.
This impeachment and trial are happening against the backdrop of the country facing an unprecedented assault on our rights at the hands of the Left. The Republican voting base is clamoring for bravery and leadership among Republican leaders, for officials who will fight for the people, not against the leaders they elect.
I am running for RNC Committeewoman for Texas. I want to stand up for the right of Republican voters in Texas and everywhere to choose their leaders, to be We the People.
Because America matters.
