Last night PBS aired live their National Memorial Day Concert, and one of the many profound parts was the story recounted in person by a woman whose husband lost his life in service to America, succumbing shortly after suffering injuries in Afghanistan. Her story, which left me (and probably most people in attendance) in tears, starts right around the 55-minute mark of this hour-and-a-half program. So worth listening to.
These “this is really what Memorial Day is all about” stories reveal the reason of the holiday better than anything else could, and offer a window into the raw meaning, the painful reality of families and loved ones enduring loss, left to face life forever without their soulmates, dads, brothers, sons.
It is now over one million Americans whose sacrifices we honor on Memorial Day. These are Americans many of whom who will never know the joy of being husbands or dads, wives or moms, never have all of the life adventures many of us experience and take for granted, and to whose families we are profoundly grateful.
Americans owe those troops who lost their lives more than just gratitude, though we can never be grateful enough.
We owe them a willingness to fight for America. To fight against ideas and ideology that simply cannot co-exist with America’s foundational promise of God-given freedom. To celebrate their sacrifices and their bravery, we must be brave and sacrifice. To do what is called for in our times, as they did what was called for in their times.
Right now America is not in a hot war on our mainland, but we are in the midst of a dangerous war, on our mainland, for the very identity and future of America. The armies attacking are ideological, but they are dangerous and consequential.
Soldiers were willing to fight and die to protect America and the world from godless Communism, Marxism, Socialism, because we used to all know that those ugly isms spell the inevitable death of the American commitment to liberty, God-given freedom, to honoring our inalienable rights to life, liberty and happiness, death to the promise of We the People being self-governed, death to religious freedom and death to the Bill of Rights.
The fact that “the ugly isms” have slithered their way into polite American political company in 2025, that they dominate academia, and that elected officials in Washington DC not only quietly support them but in fact jet around the country spreading false promises about what those isms are and could offer America, is the result of the failure of all of us, of American society and leaders and culture, to stand up and speak up, to defend America and robustly reject as un-American this ugly isms lineup. The CCP has entered this ideological fray in our mainland, simultaneously sowing disdain for American values and division among our people.
Another deadly America-destroying ideological attack on America today is rising civilization jihad. If you don’t know that term, you can read about it (and download for free the document explaining it) HERE. An official of the Muslim Brotherhood, the Mother Ship of the international Islamic jihadist movement, wrote the Explanatory Memorandum in which he spelled out how jihadists plan to take down America, using civilization jihad.
Texas is now a massive battlefront in the civilization jihad war waged against the future of freedom in America, though the same battle is happening in many other states. To catch up on the situation in Texas, read about the madrasa in Houston training kids for Islamic Supremacy, the Egyptian imam in Tyler Texas advancing the Islamic agenda and sharia supremacism, and the Islamic takeover in the EPIC mosque and city in North Texas. Read Amy Mek’s feed @AmyMek on X to follow the seriousness of the situation.
Like the ugly isms, jihadism, the belief among millions of Muslims (but not all) that Islam must be forced on the world with the goal of an international caliphate ruled by sharia (Islamic law), cannot co-exist with American values of freedom. Just as America cannot simultaneously revere and embrace individual freedom and at the same time slavery, because both cannot co-exist in the same society, we cannot revere and embrace the liberty woven into the fabric of the identity of America from the founding, and at the same time tolerate or embrace Islamic jihad, sharia, cannot tolerate civilization jihad.
Worse, the evil of Marxism has locked ideological arms with the evil of Islamization, right here in Texas. On May 2nd Texas imams joined forces with radical Marxist groups to host an event “From Marxism to Islam: The Revolutionary Road to Allah.” There is much more evidence of the bonding of these two anti-American and freedom-destroying movements, right now in America.
Back to Memorial Day. Honor our precious country by fighting to preserve our heritage of liberty and reject ideologies and ideas and policies that simply cannot co-exist with our legacy of freedom. It’s the least we can do to honor those who lost their lives so that we Americans can live life in freedom. I will share more about how to help.
